Nawazuddin Siddiqui was born in a zamindar Muslim family. Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s father’s name is Nawabuddin Siddiqui and mother’s name is Mehrunisa Siddiqui. Nawazuddin is the eldest among his 8 siblings. He married Anjana Kishore Pandey in 2009, who got divorced in 2020. He has a boy and a girl with Anjana Kishore Pandey, whose names are Siddiqui (Son) and Shora Siddiqui (Daughter).

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has spent most of his youth in Uttarakhand. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar. He then worked as a chemist in Vadodara and then moved to Delhi to find a new job.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui saw a play in Delhi, after which he too started thinking of becoming an actor. After this he took admission in National School of Drama, New Delhi. To take admission in the National School of Drama (NSD), he participated in 10 plays, including one in Dehradun.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui moved to Mumbai in 1999 after graduating from the National School of Drama (NSD). In 1999, he appeared in a small role in Aamir Khan’s film Sarfarosh. After this, he appeared in Ram Gopal Varma’s film School in 1999 and Jungle in 2000 and Munnabhai MBBS in 2003. After coming to Mumbai, he tried to work in many television serials but he did not get success.

From 2002 to 2005, he did not get much work, so he used to live together with four people in a flat and used to do some acting workshops. The worst day of his struggle came in 2004 and he could not pay the rent of his flat.

After this, Nawazuddin Siddiqui sought permission from the senior of the National School of Drama to stay with him. Allowed him to stay in senior and started living with him in Goregaon. But he had to cook food for his senior.

From 2004 to 2007, he appeared in small roles in films. After this, he got work in the 2007 film Black Friday, which was nominated for Golden Leopard. After this, in 2009, he appeared as Rangeela in the song Emotional Atyachar from the Abhay Deol starrer Dev D. In 2012, Nawazuddin Siddiqui acted in Prashant Bhargwa’s film Patang: The Kite which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival. His acting in this film was praised by Hollywood film critic Roger Joseph Ebert. The film was also reviewed by The New York Times.

In the same year, Nawazuddin Siddiqui acted in Vidya Balan’s film Kahaani in which he played the role of an eccentric intelligence officer. In the same year, he worked in Anurag Kashyap’s film Gangs of Wasseypur II, this film was very much liked in India. In the same year, he appeared as a lead actor in Ashim Ahluwalia’s film Miss Lovely, which also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. His role in this film was highly appreciated.

After this Nawazuddin Siddiqui played the character of Ganesh Gaitonde in Netflix’s TV series Sacred Games, which proved to be a super hit. It was nominated for Emmy Awards. In 2018, he also acted in the British TV series McMafia. In this film, he played the role of Dilli Mehmood.
