Amitabh Bachchan started his film career with the film Saat Hindustani. In this film he acted with well-known actors like Utpal Dutt Jalal Agha and Madhu. The film did not earn much but Amitabh Bachchan won the National Film Award for Best Newcomer. After this, the 1971 film Anand with Rajesh Khanna proved to be very important for his career.
In this film, he played the role of Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for this film. Political Career of Amitabh Bachchan
In 1984, after taking a break from the film industry for some time, he entered the field of politics in support of his friend Rajiv Gandhi. He immediately defeated Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from Allahabad seat by a huge margin of votes. However, in 1987 he left politics. The biggest reason for this was that the name of his elder brother Ajitabh started being taken in the Bofors scam. However, he was found not guilty in this case.
After this, when his old friend Amar Singh started going through a period of economic crisis, he started supporting the Samajwadi Party by supporting him. After this his wife Jaya Bachchan joined the Samajwadi Party and became a Rajya Sabha member. Jaya Bachchan is still a Rajya Sabha member from the Samajwadi Party.
Return to Film Industry
After leaving politics, Amitabh Bachchan played the lead character in the 1988 film Shahenshah which proved to be a box office hit. After this, his popularity kept on decreasing as many upcoming films started falling flat at the box office. After this he did the film Form in 1991 which also proved to be a hit.
After this, he did Agneepath in 1990 and Khuda Gawah in 1992, which proved to be box office hits. After this he took retirement from the film world for 5 years. After retirement, one of his pending film Insaniyat was released which fell on the box office.
After this he opened a production company named Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL). This production company released a film called Tere Mere Sapne in which actors like Arshad Warsi and Simran played the lead roles.
